High hopes for ropes and zip line at Telford Town Park
Adventurous visitors to Telford Town Park could soon be looking down on the grounds if plans to build a zip line and high ropes course get planning permission.
The ropes course would be put in next to the park's ranger station, near to the visitor centre, as part of a revamp. Telford & Wrekin Council has applied for planning permission for the aerial ropes course and a sales kiosk.
The course will provide a variety of activities for all ages and abilities.
Once the plans have been finalised, the council plans to lease the land to an independent company to build the course and run the equipment.
A council spokesman said: "The specific play pieces to be installed will be accessible by both fully and less able-bodied children and adults.
"Individual pieces will be confirmed once the tender has been awarded. The aerial ropes course will be supervised at all operational times by dedicated on-site staff.
"The course is set aside from the existing primary play areas which can become heavily used and chaotic at times due to their popularity. Where feasible, the course will include the tree canopy to create a woodland feel to the location."
The course would be available daily on a pay-as-you-go basis for a minimum of 350 days each year, and would also be available to groups working towards qualifications such as the Duke of Edinburgh Award, Prince's Trust, AQA Unit Award Scheme, and ASDAN Youth Award Scheme, for corporate days, and for school trips.
All the equipment for the course, including ropes, harnesses and helmets, would be stored in the ticket kiosk next to the course.
The application has now been submitted to planning chiefs and will be decided within the next three months.
