John Cattermole, former publican of the Monkmoor Hotel in Shrewsbury, is still on the run from police almost two-and-a-half years since a warrant was issued for his arrest.

The 53-year-old reported a burglary at his pub on April 25, 2010 involving the theft of £2,800 in cash together with spirits worth £1,500. But he was arrested just a few hours later on suspicion of theft and perverting the course of justice.

Cattermole was bailed for a month and was due to report to Shrewsbury police station on May 26, 2010 but never appeared and has evaded capture ever since.

Police chiefs admitted that extensive inquiries had failed to track him down and said he could have now gone into hiding in any part of the country.

A picture was today released of Cattermole, who is about 5ft 7ins.

Constable Jason Tierney from West Mercia Police, said: "I am hoping he will be recognised and appealing for any information which will lead me to Mr Cattermole.

"Extensive inquiries with other police forces and other agencies have all proved negative. He could be working in the licensed trade elsewhere in the country and hopefully someone will be able to identify him and get in touch."

Anyone with any information can call police on 0300 333 3000 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
