Shropshire going crazy with fireworks fun

The skies will be lit up with colour as thousands of people from Telford, Bridgnorth and Newport flock to bonfire and fireworks celebrations over the weekend.

Tonight about 2,000 people are expected to flock to Newport Rugby Club in Forton Road, with the bonfire lit at 7pm and fireworks starting at 7.30pm. Tickets cost £5 per person on the gate, with under-fives free and car parking at no extra charge.

A bonfire and fireworks night is also taking place at Madeley Cricket Club in Telford tonight. Gates open at 6pm and fireworks start at 7pm.

Admission is £1 per person and parking is free.

Organisers of tomorrow's display at Wellington Cricket Club have promised it will be the biggest and best yet. It starts at 5.30pm and costs £4 for adults, £1 for under 14s, and youngsters under five free.

At Blists Hill Victorian Town in Ironbridge Gorge there will be a traditional Victorian event and fireworks display at 7.30pm tomorrow, costing £9.50 for adults, £6.25 children aged three to 15 and £29 for a family group. Tickets must be bought in advance.

In Bridgnorth the town's rugby club are putting on an event. Gates open from 5pm at the Edgar Davies Rugby Football Ground next to Severn Park, with last entry at 6.45pm and fireworks lit at 7pm. Admission is £5 on the gate or £2.50 for children over 10, with youngsters under that going free.

Weston Park, near Shifnal, will put on two huge fireworks displays on Sunday. The bonfire will be lit at 3pm and fireworks shows are at 6pm and 7.30pm. Entry is £16 per car – maximum of six per vehicle.

More than 8,000 people are expected at the West Mid Showground in Shrewsbury on Sunday. The fire will be lit at 4pm, fireworks start at 6pm. Entry is £5 for adults, £2 for under 16s and under fives free.

Tomorrow Caterpillar in Lancaster Road in Shrewsbury will stage an event at 5pm.

The bonfire will be lit at about 6.45pm with the firework display 30 minutes later. Admission costs £4 for adults, £2 for children and OAPs and a family ticket is £10.

A bonfire will be lit at Dearnford Lake, near Whitchurch, on Monday. The event starts at 5pm, entry is £7.50 (£4 children).
