Guide to Shropshire bonfire night events

Thousands are expected to brave the cold to mark Bonfire Night as fireworks will be set off across Shropshire and Mid Wales over the weekend.

More than 8,000 people are expected at the West Mid Showground in Shrewsbury tomorrow, where the town's main display will be taking place, while there will also be events at Weston Park, Blists Hill Victorian Town in Ironbridge Gorge and at Bridgnorth Rugby Club.

But revellers will need to wrap up warm, with light showers expected across the county and temperatures set to drop as low as 3C tonight.

Events taking place across Shropshire and Mid Wales include:

SHREWSBURY

Tonight:

- Caterpillar in Lancaster Road, Shrewsbury. Gates open 5pm, bonfire lit at 6.45pm and fireworks 30 minutes later. Admission £4 for adults, £2 for children and OAPs and £10 for a family ticket. The CAT Reman – Bonfire and Firework page is on Facebook.

- Withington Village Green, near Shrewsbury, at 6pm. Admission free but donations for St John the Baptist Church in the village.

Sunday:

Monday:

- Oakmeadow Primary School, Bayston Hill. Bonfire night and fireworks from 5.30pm. Entry will be £3 for adults and £2 for children.

TELFORD AND BRIDGNORTH

Tonight:

- Queen's Arms in Dawley Bank, Telford from 5pm onwards. Entry free. Ring Rachel Parkinson on (01952) 200120.

- Wellington Cricket Club, Orleton Park, Wellington. Gates open at 5.30pm, fireworks start 7.30pm. Admission £4 for adults aged 14 and over, with children £2 and under 3s free. Visit www.welling toncc.co.uk

NORTH SHROPSHIRE

Tonight:

- Brongyntyn Park, Oswestry. Firework display and torchlight procession organised by Treble Niners, Oswestry Borderland Rotary Club and Oswestry Town Council. Torches available from Festival Square from 6pm, procession led by Olympic torch bearer Briony Johnson who will light bonfire at 7pm. Tickets £5 for adults and children free. - Ifton Meadows Nature Reserve, near St Martins. Annual lantern parade. Starts at 6.30pm, and Ifton Colliery Band will lead the parade to the View Point for a display. Entry free. Details on www.stmartins-online.org.uk

Monday:

Friday:

- Grove School, Market Drayton. Display will start at 6.30pm.

SOUTH SHROPSHIRE

Tonight:

- Rectory Field, Church Stretton. Bonfire and fireworks organised by scouts and Church Stretton Chamber of Trade. Bonfire lit at 7pm and fireworks at 7.30pm.

- Kempton Farm, near Lydbury North. Bonfire lit at 7pm and fireworks at 7.30pm. Entry is £3 for adults, £1 for children and free for under fives. Contact (01588) 660250.

Monday:

- Onibury, near Craven Arms. Annual bonfire and fireworks display, field signposted from the village. Bonfire lit at 7pm, fireworks at 7.30pm. Tickets cost £4 for adults and £2 for children.

MID WALES

Tonight:

- Maesydre Recreation Ground in Welshpool. Welshpool Town Council will host a free fireworks display. Fireworks will start at 7pm. visit www.welsh pooltowncouncil.com

- Rhiwhiriaeth Community Centre, near Llanfair Caereinion. Event starts at 6.30pm. Entry free. Call (01938) 810440.

Monday:
