Nine pupils from Moorfield Primary School in Newport were given the chance of watching Olympic medal winners Kristian Thomas and Daniel Purvis.

The stars were training at Lilleshall National Sports Centre yesterday.

And the group, which contributes to the school's online blog, then had the chance to quiz the athletes, asking how they got involved in gymnastics and how many hours a week they trained.

Zac Hayes, 10, of Lilleshall, said he enjoyed the experience.

He added: "I asked both of them how much training they do and they said between 29 and 30 hours a week."

Kristian, 23, and Daniel, 21, were part of the bronze medal-winning GB men's team this summer. Brendan Overal, nine, from Newport, asked where the gymnasts kept their medals. He said: "They said their dads keep hiding them."

The trip was made possible by a link-up between Moorfield Primary School and British Gymnastics after the school was used to film a video promoting the Olympics.
