Ludlow Assembly Rooms is to be repainted a sage green, olive and cream early next year.

Bosses at the Assembly Rooms, which attracts 200,000 visitors every year, held a public vote in September and asked residents what colour they would like to see the venue repainted after its current lilac hue became a 'love it/hate it' issue within the town.

After the vote a building survey showed the venue would first have to be re-rendered before any painting could take place.

Rachel Buchanan, the Assembly Rooms' managing director, said initial work cost estimates came to £40,000, throwing the facelift into doubt.

But marketing manager Jenna Blair said Shropshire Council had agreed to fund the project.

She said: "We are very happy this is going ahead.

"It will bring a fresh new look to the venue.

"The colour of the new building will be a combination of sage green, olive and cream. It will be repainted after the rendering has been completed.

"The colours we have chosen were popular during the vote and have met with the approval of the local conservation officer."

The repainting is part of a wider project which has already seen the building's interior redecorated.
