Shropshire Star app keeps county couple up with news

A Shropshire couple ensure they never miss out on their favourite local newspaper – despite spending part of the year in Canada – by subscribing to the Shropshire Star's iPad app.

Chris and Pauline Breeze, who live in Waters Upton, near Telford, have a son in Toronto while Pauline's twin sister lives in British Columbia (BC).

The couple also own a home in Canada and visit up to four times a year, sometimes staying for up to five months at a time.

However, while the pair enjoy catching up with their ex-pat family they hate missing local news from the Shropshire Star.

But that all changed when Chris bought Pauline an iPad last Christmas, allowing them to subscribe to the Shropshire Star's app and read the newspaper, even when they're 3,000 miles from home.

"It's hard to get hold of an English newspaper in Canada," explained Pauline, 69, "but the Shropshire Star covers local and national news so we don't need to read anything else.

"Even better, once you've downloaded an edition, you don't need wifi to access it so we can read the newspaper wherever we like.

"It often helps to pass the time waiting around at the airport!"

Pauline also loves the app's page-turning technology, which she describes as 'like having an actual copy of the newspaper in your hands'. "It's incredibly easy to access," she said.

"If my technophobe husband can manage it, anyone can."

Subscribing to the newspaper via the iPad app costs £1.49 per week or £4.99 per month. To download your app with a week of free access, see www.shropshirestar.com/app.
