Signed Mike Tyson glove will be a knockout at Shrewsbury auction
A boxing glove signed by former world champion Mike Tyson will go under the hammer at an auction in Shrewsbury.
The glove will be sold by Halls at an auction at the Welsh Bridge saleroom in Shrewsbury on November 21 alongside a cast resin statue of Mr Tyson.
The combined lot is expected to fetch about £120.
Also included in the auction are two signed letters from the late Wolves and England footballer Billy Wright while head of sport at ATV and Central Television. Mr Wright, who also managed Arsenal and joined the board of directors at Wolves in 1990, died in 1994 at the age of 70.
Three Wales caps won by 19th century Chirk footballer Edwin James, who played with the legendary Billy Meredith, are expected to fetch up to £700 each.
William Lacey, Halls' sporting specialist, said: "Mr James was capped eight times for Wales – against England and Ireland in 1892/93, Ireland, England and Scotland in 1893/94, Scotland and England in 1897/98 and against Ireland in 1898/99. The caps in the auction are for the seasons 1893/4, 1897/8 and 1899.
"He spent his 20-year football career playing for Chirk, helping the club to win the Welsh Cup in 1892, 1893 and 1894. He was still playing when a young Mr Meredith, nicknamed the 'Welsh Wizard', made his debut for Chirk in 1892 before going on to star for Wales, Manchester City and Manchester United."
