Massive review on parking in Telford & Wrekin

Council bosses are undertaking a massive review of parking restrictions in Telford & Wrekin.

Members of the public are being invited to have their say and Telford & Wrekin Council is holding three consultation events this week. It is inviting comments until the middle of December about on-street parking restrictions in parts of Wellington, Newport and south and west Telford.

It is hoped the review will result in more on-street parking spaces.

Council spokesman Russell Griffin said: "It was high time we did it because a review hasn't been done since Telford & Wrekin became a unitary authority.

"We don't expect a massive amount of changes as a result but there will be an emphasis on freeing up more on-street parking where possible."

An exhibition of the review in Wellington was on display in the civic and leisure centre today until 6pm, and there will be another at Newport library tomorrow from 10am to 6pm.

The final exhibition is at Coalbrookdale and Ironbridge Community Centre on Friday from 9am to 6pm.

The review, which the council said was to make sure parking restrictions and Traffic Regulation Orders in the borough were correct and suitable for current traffic conditions.

In Wellington, the affected council wards are Shawbirch, Dothill, Park, Haygate, College, Ercall and Arleston, while in Newport the review will cover Edgmond, Newport North, Newport East, Newport West, Newport South, Church Aston & Lilleshall.

The final review will cover a large part of south Telford in the Wrockwardine, Ironbridge Gorge, Woodside, Madeley, Cuckoo Oak and Horsehay & Lightmoor council wards.

The details of the areas being reviewed, as well as the proposals, are available on www.telford.gov.uk

Comments are invited and will be taken into consideration when the final decisions are made.

Consultation on the Wellington proposals closes on December 14, and for both Newport and south and west Telford on December 17.
