Robert 'Oz' Clarke, who is perhaps best known for appearing in James May's Man Lab Christmas Special on BBC2 and writing in the Sunday Express and Daily Telegraph, will be the star guest at Tanners Wine Merchants, Wyle Cop, in Shrewsbury.

Tickets for the yearly tasting event have sold out and Oz, as he is better known, will be signing copies of his book, Bordeaux A New Look at the World's Most Famous Wine Region, which will be available for sale at Tanners branches and website.

Oz will be in the town from 6.30pm and company bosses said all the preparations were in place for a successful event with up to 40 different wines on offer to visitors during the event.

Alison Chadwick, marketing manager at Tanners Wines, said: "Oz has been saying he will come here for years so to finally have him confirmed is fantastic and we are expecting a great evening.

"We'll have 175 people coming along and tickets have all sold out. It is always very popular but having Oz attending is definitely a bonus and adds to the intrigue for people."

She added: "People are given a glass and a sample sheet and there are then about 40 wines to try."
