Elderly pair hurt in mobility scooter crash in Ludlow
An elderly woman driving a mobility scooter left two pensioners with cuts and bruises after she knocked them over while 'tearing' around a street corner in Ludlow.
Betty Didlick, 86, and Margaret Knill, 76, who run Ludlow Cat Rescue, were walking along Gravel Hill when the scooter came around the corner. Mrs Didlick was knocked into the road and Mrs Knill thrown flat on her back by the impact.
Shocked onlookers rushed to help. Mrs Didlick was first taken to Ludlow Hospital and later taken by ambulance to The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital because her wounds would not stop bleeding.
Mrs Knill was taken home with leg and back injuries.
Police have spoken to the scooter driver and no charges are being pressed.
Mrs Didlick said: "A mobility scooter came tearing round the corner of St Julian's Avenue and crashed straight into us. It was shocking, we didn't even see it coming. I was thrown into the road and lucky not to be squashed because no cars were coming. Margaret was thrown on to her back.
"If that scooter had hit a small child it would not have stood a chance. I was taken to hospital and made a real mess. I was bleeding on the road, in the ambulance and at the hospital because my legs were cut to pieces.
"Margaret did not need to go to hospital but suffered very bad bruising and is on painkillers. I will be laid up for a few weeks because I can't get up and about."
The pair run the Ludlow Cat Rescue shop on Old Street. "We know the lady in question and did not want to press charges or name her, she is very upset by what happened" added Mrs Didlick.
West Mercia Police say mobility scooters can be used on both the road and pavement and have spoken to everyone involved.
