Blacksmiths unveil giant iron sculpture at Enginuity in Ironbridge
More than 75 blacksmiths came together to create a huge iron sculpture which has now been unveiled in its new home at a museum in Shropshire.
The creation, which took more than 800kg of iron to produce, has taken centre stage at Enginuity, one of the 10 Ironbridge Gorge Museums.
The British Artist Blacksmiths' Association (BABA) took two days to install the sculpture, which took inspiration from the history of metalworking in the Ironbridge Gorge World Heritage Site.
It was designed by artist blacksmith Olly Boyett with help from fellow craftsmen Matt Snape and David Frazier.
Olly's design represents foundry boxes which are filled with a variety of forged sculptural compositions.
The impressive sculpture was created in a weekend of public forging sessions held in the summer at Blists Hill Victorian Town.
More than 75 blacksmiths arrived from across the country to work in small teams on individual components that have now been brought together to make the sculpture.
