Have a say on Gobowen, St Martins and Weston Rhyn £1m bonanza

A public meeting will be staged next week to give residents the chance to discuss how a £1 million lottery bonanza should be spent to improve life in three villages around Oswestry.

The Big Local programme is aimed at helping communities which in the past have missed out on lottery funding.

The £1 million will be spent over 10 years to improve Gobowen, St Martins and Weston Rhyn, and scheme organisers say they will soon reach the stage where they can start drawing down the cash.

Residents from the villages are being urged to attend talks on Tuesday to have their say on how the money should be spent.

David Boyce, the scheme co-ordinator, said there were two main reasons to hold the meeting, which will be held at St John's Church in Weston Rhyn at 7.30pm.

He said: "One is to remind everyone of the process involved in setting up a Big Local programme so that the £1m Big Lottery funding can start to be drawn down. The other is to give as many people as possible another chance to be actively involved."

He said it was essential the public attended the meeting and gave their ideas on what projects they felt were worthy of support.

And Mr Boyce said he also wanted to hear from members of the business community on how the money could provide an economic boost.

He said: "We have held our first business breakfast to set up a network of contacts and will be having a second business breakfast at Henlle Park Golf Club on December 11."
