A Wolverhampton reverend has found he can keep up to date with the local news and save money at the same time by subscribing to the Express & Star iPad app.

The Rev Bill Mash, aged 58, is a team leader of the Black Country Urban Industrial Mission(BCUIM), which fosters links between the church and the economy.

The BCUIM has just launched a new email service if people have concerns about work or other issues they might want to share with a chaplain. The group is piloting the service to gauge if there is a need for this kind of support. If people want to get in touch with BCUIM, they should email enquiries@bcuim.co.uk.

Mr Mash, who lives in Stafford, says : "I used to buy a newspaper occasionally when there was a relevant news story to my area of work.

"However, the iPad edition is priced in such a way to make it worthwhile getting every day as it pays for itself – even if you only read it two or three times a week.

"Also, it has saved me the bother of going to the local shop while I'm at work."

The app's page-turning technology simulates the experience of reading a printed edition of the Express & Star, with all the benefits of using a hand-held device.

Mr Mash also enjoys being able to see at a glance which stories are in the app each day, thanks to a menu of thumbnails.

"The headlines in the thumbnails are still big enough to read, so I can do a quick scan of it for the main stories that interest me," he adds.

The Express & Star desktop service costs £1.49 per week, £4.99 per month or 69p for one day access. To try out the new service, go to www.expressandstar.com/digital-subscribe.

The app service is a separate package, available at £1.49 per week or £4.99 per month via the online App Store. Log onto www.expressandstar.com/app for full details.
