Shropshire flooding fears after inch of rain overnight
[gallery] Shropshire was braced for more flooding misery today as torrential rain again lashed the already sodden region.
About an inch of rain (25mm) fell overnight and 11 flood alerts were in place across the county today.
Forecasters said that although there would be a brief respite tomorrow the rain would return in the evening and continue over the weekend and on into Christmas week.
Ladbrokes was today offering odds of 7-1 against a white Christmas in the wake of the wet forecast.
There were no immediate plans to put up the flood barriers in Ironbridge today but council officials were keeping a close eye on river levels as the downpours continued.
Telford & Wrekin Council spokesman Russell Griffin said: "We are liaising with the Environment Agency and will issue further updates as necessary."
Flood barriers in Shrewsbury were expected to go up this evening but Environment Agency staff will wait until audiences had left the pantomime at Theatre Severn before closing Frankwell car park to complete the work.
The Severn is predicted to peak in Shrewsbury tomorrow afternoon.
