Fatal Mid Wales reservoir crash appeal is rejected
A motorist jailed for causing the death of four members of a family after their people carrier was shunted into a reservoir in Mid Wales has lost his appeal against his sentence.
Gordon Dyche, 25, had been trying to overtake Denise Griffith's car when he collided with it, sending it into Llyn Clywedog, near Llanidloes on April 20 last year.
Mrs Griffith's husband Emyr, 66, mother Phyllis Hooper, 84, and two foster sons Peter Briscome and Liam Govier, both 14, were all killed in the incident.
The collision happened when Dyche tried to overtake two cars, the front one being driven by Mrs Griffith, who was turning right into a layby to view the reservoir.
Dyche, of Llanbrynmair in Powys was jailed for four years in August on four counts of causing death by dangerous driving.
He appealed against the sentence at London's Criminal Appeals Court yesterday.
But judges decided an 'appropriate sentence' had been imposed, given the accident caused the deaths of four people.
