Inquiry into Wellington Co-op raid is widened

Police are widening their checks on CCTV footage in a bid to identify a car which they believe may have been involved in a supermarket raid in which a worker was attacked with a stun gun.

Officers investigating the raid at the Co-op store in Wellington have sent items away for forensic testing as they hunt the gang.

A member of staff was attacked with a Taser-like device during the raid, in which two workers were tied up.

Three raiders, all wearing balaclavas, hit the store, in Bagley Drive last Tuesday, between 5.45 and 6.15am.

Police are appealing for witnesses and are keen for information about a black car which they believe was at the scene.

Mr Ammonds said: "We have been told a vehicle may have sped away from the scene at just after 6.13am."

He said officers were unable to identify the make of the small black saloon car from CCTV coverage
