Theatre Severn panto Jack and the Beanstalk breaks audience records
Shrewsbury's Jack and the Beanstalk pantomime has smashed all audience records – with more than a week to go before the laugh-a-minute show closes.
Theatre Severn bosses said the production yesterday passed the 33,547 mark set by last year's show, Aladdin.
And with the show, which started on December 6, running until January 13, ticket sales are expected to soar past the previous record.
This year's hit pantomime is the second for Shrewsbury's Theatre Severn in partnership with Evolution Productions, run by Telford-born TV personality Paul Hendy and his wife Emily Wood.
Theatre manager Peter Nicholson said: "We are thrilled and would like to thank those who have attended for their fantastic support."
The show features Jo Parsons as Jack, Bleu Woodward as Princess Tamara and Laura Jane Matthewson as Fairy Sugarsnap.
Also appearing is BBC Radio Shropshire's Eric Smith, in his 10th Shrewsbury pantomime, as King Eric.
Mr Nicholson said tickets for next year's pantomime were already on sale and proving popular.
He said: "Over 1,000 tickets have already been sold for Sleeping Beauty, and thousands more have been reserved by local schools."
Tickets for Jack and the Beanstalk are still available from the box office at Theatre Severn (01743) 281281, the Old Market Hall in The Square, or at www.theatresevern.co.uk
