Mother's shock over Telford teenager's gun death in America

The devastated mother of a 19-year-old girl from Shropshire who died in a shooting tragedy in America said she could not believe her daughter had died.

Beverley Still spoke of her shock after her daughter Nica Jane Webley, known as Nisha, who lived with her in Portia Close, Wellington, died from a gunshot on December 27.

Miss Still, 49, added: "I first heard the news from my son at about 9am on December 28, the day after it happened. I didn't believe what he said had happened.

"I still can't believe it now and I won't believe it until I see her coffin."

Police believe Miss Webley's wounds were self-inflicted using a gun owned by her cousin, Mike Daniels Jnr, but mystery still surrounds the incident.

Mr Daniels, 22, who owned the Glock .45 semi-automatic pistol for his job as a security guard, had been doing target practice in his garden when the tragedy occurred, according to reports.

Nica was 11 days into a three-week stay with her uncle, Rev Mike Daniels, in the small Texan town of Fairfield, 70 miles south of Dallas, when she died.

Reports suggested Miss Webley took her own life after breaking up with her boyfriend. But Miss Still said: "She had split up with her partner but I know nothing about the reports. People make things up when they don't know the truth."
