Steve Green, 55, from Meole Village who served for almost three decades as a fireman in Shrewsbury, has launched Passmaster Football Coaching in the town.

He has teamed up with son Lee to set up the coaching classes, which will be based at the Priory School.

Mr Green, who played for Shrewsbury Town for four years as a youngster and is the current director of the Shropshire Schools and Colleges Football Association, said the aim of his coaching courses will be to build basic football skills for young children, as well as identifying possible stars of the future.

"I'm an experienced football coach who has worked in centres of excellence. But I also did 28 years as an operational firefighter in Shrewsbury," he said.

"The main aim is to give an introduction to football for youngsters to give a good experience of the first time playing football.

"Prior to all this, I did play professional football. I spent four years as a professional for Shrewsbury but my career was cut short by a serious knee injury."

He added he hoped that the coaching sessions could identify talented youngsters and link them up with professional clubs.

There will be a session at the Priory on Sunday between 10am and 4pm for children aged five to seven. Anyone interested can call Mr Green on 07503 260041 or e-mail steve@passmasterfootballcoaching.co.uk
