Scandal-hit Martin Yeates resigns from top Shropshire charity job
The scandal-hit boss of a charity based in Shropshire has quit in the wake of damning criticism of his part in the Stafford Hospital scandal.
Martin Yeates was chief executive at the hospital for four years, during which time between 400 and 1,200 patients are thought to have died as a result of neglect and poor care.
He has quit as boss of Impact Alcohol and Addiction Services in Shropshire with immediate effect after just months in the job.
The early findings of a public inquiry into the Stafford scandal accuse the hospital trust of slashing budgets in an attempt to gain foundation status, leading to catastrophic failures in basic care.
In a statement read out after a meeting of Impact's trustees, chairman David Bell said: "With mutual agreement and with immediate effect we have accepted the resignation of Martin Yeates as our chief officer.
"In recent weeks there has been considerable media coverage in the lead up to the final report of the Stafford Hospital inquiry.
"It is essential that the board, our staff and volunteers are not distracted from our important work in caring for those suffering from addiction and needing our support."
Mr Yeates' legal representative Andrew Hodge declined to comment.
