Golden anniversary delight for Pontesbury couple
A couple who met at a wedding in the 1960s are celebrating 50 years of their own married bliss.
Grandparents Sylvia and Graham Lewis, of Main Road, Pontesbury, met at a friend's wedding held at Snailbeach Methodist Church in 1962.
Mrs Lewis went from bridesmaid to bride when she and Graham tied the knot in the very same church on January 12, 1963.
Fifty years ago Shropshire was also in the grip of freezing weather. Mrs Lewis, aged 76, said: "They had to dig out the path to the church there was that much snow."
After their marriage, the couple moved to Much Wenlock, before settling in Pontesbury, where they have lived for 48 years.
Mr Lewis, 80, worked as a general machine engineer for Rolls Royce while Mrs Lewis worked in the firm's office, before moving to the creamery at Minsterley.
The couple, who are both retired, still enjoy a busy social life.
They have three children, nine grandsons and one granddaughter, 18-year-old Hayley Lewis.
