Survey to make views on Mid Wales pylon plans plain
Residents are to have their say on controversial plans which could see pylons carrying power lines through Shropshire and Mid Wales.
A community council has created its own questionnaire on National Grid's proposal to build a 400,000 volt electricity line to feed electricity generated from wind farms in Mid Wales into the national power network.
Its proposed route is from an electricity substation at Cefn Coch, west of Welshpool, via Llansanttfraid, south of Llanymynech and Oswestry to Lower Frankton. There it will join the National Grid's main network.
It has not yet been decided whether the power lines should be overhead or buried underground and now National Grid is carrying out studies and surveys to help them make a decision.
Today, members of Carreghofa Community Council said it has created a questionnaire for each household in the Welsh side of Llanymynech to complete.
There are five questions asking residents if they support proposals for wind farms to be built in mid Wales and if they approve of the plans for the 400kV power line.
The questionnaire also asks if residents have been informed or consulted about vehicle transportation through the villages, if daytime disruption along the A483 would affect their travel plans and if they are concerned the proposed projects would affect the local tourism, economy and property values in the area?
Councillor Martin Clare, from Carreghofa Community Council, said: "Once we have the information back it will be analysed and used at the public inquiry as evidence.
"We feel in many ways we have not been fully consulted, particularly in Carreghofa. Nobody has talked about the transport issues."
Jane Taylor, a spokesperson for National Grid, said the community council had been invited to talk to National Grid.
She said: "Once the questionnaire is completed we would be very pleased to meet the council and discuss the findings with them."
She added: "We are keen to hear what people have to say."
