Graham Hinton, group master for the town's Scout group, died in the Wrexham Maelor Hospital.

He was today described as a kind and generous man.

Mr Hinton had been involved in the town's Scout movement since he was 10-years-old and was honoured for his efforts by being made an Honorary Freeman in December 2011.

Civic and scout leaders today said they had been left shocked and saddened by his sudden death. Relatives were too upset to talk.

Ann Hartley, Shropshire Councillor for Ellesmere, said: "It is a huge tragedy to the family and a great loss to the community because he was such a team player."

Mr Hinton worked as a baker at Vermeulen & Son Deli in Cross Street for about 45 years, alongside his wife Christine.

He also leaves behind his children, Alan and Debbie, and his grandson, Callum, as well as his mother, Amy, and brother, Paul.

Simon Vernon, the Beaver leader at the town Scout group, said: "He was a kind man and if he could do something he would, if not he would know someone who could."

Mayor of Ellesmere, Councillor Alan Clarke, said: "He was one of those quiet workers that just got on with the job."

His funeral will be held at Ellesmere Methodist Church on Saturday at midday, followed by a family interment at Criftins churchyard.

Mr Hinton died last Thursday.
