Shrewsbury drug addict father jailed after cocaine haul is found
A father-of-two from Shrewsbury who planned to sell 14 bags of cocaine has been jailed for two years. Addict David Blent, of York Road, Harlescott, admitted two charges.
He previously admitted possessing cocaine with intent to supply and possessing cannabis.
At Shrewsbury Crown Court Mr Robert Edwards, prosecuting, said the 44-year-old had been spotted by police riding a bike with no lights on Lancaster Road last April.
When challenged Blent struggled with officers before running off and throwing a bag of white powder into a garden.
He was caught and the recovered package was found to contain 4.29 grams of cocaine split into 14 bags.
Mr Edwards said the defendant had been acting as a courier.
He added that officers found another 0.2 grams of cocaine, some cannabis and drug paraphernalia at Blent's home.
Mr Michael Sherwood-Smith, defending, said Blent had a £60-a-day cocaine habit and sought help.
Judge Robin Onions, said it was 'unacceptable' for Blent to keep drugs at the home his shared with his daughters, aged 11 and 13.
He told him: "Here you are again still addicted to drugs and it hasn't brought you any happiness. Your days are taken up trying to find money to feed your addiction.
"You brought drugs into your home and two impressionable young ladies have been living with the chaos of a drug user."
