Andy Holley, from Shawbury, was crowned marshal of the year at the Motor Sport Association night of champion's ceremony in London.

The evening, which was presented by broadcaster Steve Rider, was attended by high-profile figures from the world of racing including former F1 driver and Le Mans 24 Hours winner

David Brabham. Mr Holley, who is a chief pilot at RAF Shawbury, was described as one of the most trusted race marshals in the UK and was praised for the work he has done at racetracks including Silverstone at the British Grand Prix.

He received the Federation Internationale De L'Automobile Best Marshal of the Year trophy from Lord Rooker, chairman of the British Motor Sport Training Trust.

He said: "To be honest, I was very humbled and honoured. There are so many worthy marshals and volunteer officials doing their thing across the world so to receive this award from the FIA is very special."

Alongside his marshal work Mr Holley is also the national training officer for the British Motorsport Marshals Club. He also is part of the MSA international training team.

MSA chief executive, Colin Hilton, said: "Every year it is heartening to see the breadth and depth of British motor sport and remind ourselves why this is one area in which we genuinely lead the rest of the world."
