Tickets are still on sale for the 77-year-old's appearance at The Regal in Tenbury Wells, where he will be performing Butterfly Brain.

Ian Little, the venue's general manager, said about half of the 248 tickets had been sold.

"There's been a lot of interest," he added.

"Obviously he's a very popular personality.

"We'd love to give him a full house."

Mr Cryer, who has written material for comic greats including Morecambe and Wise and Tommy Cooper during a career spanning nearly 60 years, will appear alongside pianist Colin Sell.

The two are well-known for their appearances on BBC Radio 4's I'm Sorry I haven't a Clue, which began back in 1972.

Cryer's other appearances include stints on TV panel gameshows including That's Showbusiness, Blankety Blank, What's My Line?, Punch Lines and Give Us A Clue.

For five years he was the chairman of Jokers Wild on ITV and hosted a series of Cross-Wits programmes for Tyne Tees Television as well as fronting the BBC's Music Match.

Mr Cryer, who was awarded the OBE in 2001, had previously written a book with the same name, Butterfly Brain, filled with memories of comic greats he had worked with and for.

They also included Max Miller, Bob Hope and Ken Dodd.

He also co-wrote several series of the Kenny Everett television programmes.

The show starts at 7.30pm on February 16.

Tickets, costing £25, are available by logging on to www.regaltenbury.co.uk or by telephoning the Regal's box office on (01584) 811442.
