Headteacher quits at troubled north Shropshire school

The headteacher of a troubled Shropshire secondary school has resigned from his post.

Malcolm Roddy announced he would be leaving Sir John Talbot's Technology College and Sixth Form in Whitchurch at a school assembly yesterday.

But it is not yet clear when Mr Roddy will be leaving,, and he declined to comment when contacted today.

Shropshire Council stepped in to oversee improvements at the school at the end of last year.

One parent, who did not wish to be named, said: "I think he should have gone with the governors.I think change is needed."

Karen Bradshaw, director of children's services at Shropshire Council, said : "We would like to thank Mr Roddy for his work at Sir John Talbot's and wish him well.

"There are lots of challenges still to face at the school, and he has decided to leave his post to allow a fresh approach."
