Drivers warned of delays as two roadwork projects start
Drivers were today warned to expect delays as major roadworks take place along key routes in Shropshire.
Works are being carried out in Shrewsbury town centre this weekend as part of a £1.5 million scheme to improve one of the main gateways into the town.
And the Highways Agency is due to start resurfacing the A483 near Llanymynech and Pant on Monday.
Shropshire Council said Shrewsbury was 'still open for business', despite admitting motorists would face some disruption as the project on the Northern Gateway Enhancement Scheme continues.
Coton Hill will be closed to inbound traffic from its junction with Berwick Road to Cross Street between 8am tomorrow and 6am on Monday.
Cross Street and Howard Street will be closed between these times to allow resurfacing works to take place.
Workers will also resurface a stretch of road near the Royal Mail sorting office on Castle Foregate after potholes appeared during the recent cold spell.
Meanwhile, the Highways Agency next week starts work including replacing signs and creating a pedestrian crossing bet-ween Pant Village Hall and the shop. The work, which is subject to weather conditions, will take about five weeks to complete.
Information letters about the Shrewsbury scheme are being delivered to residents and businesses that will be affected by the works, and advanced warning signs will be placed on site.
Council chiefs said closing part of Coton Hill and putting in place a diversion will help to avoid long delays on this approach to the town centre and mean that traffic can keep flowing, rather than having to queue at temporary traffic lights.
