Grieving mother pays tribute to 'lovely' son

The mother of a man found dead at a Shropshire home today paid tribute to her son as a 'lovely, lovely person, kind and helpful to everyone' and 'someone who had touched the lives of people from across the world'.

Mrs Pamela Hurley said her son Simon's death had led to her receiving more than 100 messages of condolence and had been met with shock and sadness from friends worldwide and neighbours in Market Drayton.

Mr Hamilton Hurley, 47, had lived in an apartment at Red Barn Road in the town for about five years.

Mrs Hurley said her son was born in South Wales in 1965 and educated at Ysgol cwmraeg, Cwmbwrla before the family moved to South Africa when he was 10.

"He went to primary and secondary schools in South Africa before studying engineering at the University of Cape Town," Mrs Hurley said.

He served his two years national service in the South African Airforce.

"After that he and some friends went travelling, visiting Britain and Europe, Canada and America.

"He travelled to London where he met his wife They married and had two lovely daughters, now aged 19 and 14, who live in London."

Mr Hamilton Hurley worked for British Aerospace and Nokia as well as other companies during his career.

When Mrs Hurley moved back to Britain after the death of her husband, she settled in Whitchurch.

"Simon spent some time helping me to settle in then moved into his apartment in Market Drayton. He really loved Shropshire and was very happy here. He was as a lovely, lovely person, kind and helpful to everyone.

"When Martyn, Simon's brother, and I went to his apartment at the weekend so many neighbours came to talk to us. They were so sad at his death and told us what a good neighbour he was."

Mr Hamilton Hurley's hobbies including a love of motorbikes.

"He owned many motorcycles during his life and he loved to go along to the truck stop near Whitchurch where motorcyclists meet on Sundays," his mother said. "We have had well over 100 messages, from across the world. Simon touched the lives of so many people."

Mr Hamilton Hurley was found dead at a home in Market Drayton last week.
