Thieves steal £1,000 of fuel in raid on Telford yard
Thieves plundered more than £1,000 of fuel from a number of vehicles during a raid on a factory yard in Telford.
The raiders cut their way into the yard at Hortonwood 33, breaking into three trailers and stealing 800 litres of fuel. A 42-inch flat-screen television was also taken.
Ten trailers were damaged at the yard, which belongs to Torton Bodies Limited, a trailer and vehicle exhibition business.
In total, almost £2,000 of property was stolen and it is estimated the vehicles and trailers suffered several thousand pounds' worth of damage as the thieves tried to gain access by forcing open doors or windows.
The raid happened sometime between 5.30pm on Monday and 7.30am on Tuesday.
Police in Telford are now appealing for information after the theft.
A spokesman for West Mercia Police said: "Sometime overnight it appears thieves broke into the yard by cutting a large hole in the perimeter fencing.
"Once inside the yard the thieves approached a number of vehicles that were parked up and then stole around 800 litres of fuel in total from several of them.
"They also approached and forced entry to two or three exhibition trailers that were in the yard and from one of the trailers the thieves stole a 42-inch LG flat-screen television."
Chris Ammonds, spokesman for West Mercia Police, added: "Just over £1,000 worth of diesel was stolen from four trailers, and the television was worth between £400 and £600."
