[gallery] Retail giant TK Maxx today officially opened its new superstore in Shrewsbury, creating 15 jobs.
The high street chain shut its two-floor branch in the Darwin Shopping Centre yesterday ahead of the opening of its new store at the Meole Brace Retail Park.
Around 30 members of staff have transferred over to the new shop, which is nearly twice as large as the previous town centre store and has created an extra 15 new jobs.
The ribbon was cut by first customer Libby Thomas, from Atcham, at 9am and she was presented with flowers. The first 500 customers today received a £10 voucher to spend in store.
TK Maxx launched in the UK in 1994 and now has more than 230 stores in the UK and Republic of Ireland. It specialises in designer brands at reduced prices.
Evelyn Morton, for TK Maxx, said: "The new store which is located on Meole Brace Retail Park is nearly double the size of the existing store which means so much more designer fashion with up to 60 per cent off the recommended retail price.
"We will be adding gold label to the new store which is a department that holds premium designer brands also with up to 60 per cent off the recommended retail price."
TX Maxx already has a store at the Forge Retail Park in Telford.
The retailer has taken over the space previously used by Focus DIY at Meole Brace Retail Park.
