Police in Telford were tipped off by a member of the public who reported hearing noises coming from an industrial estate on Station Road, Madeley.

Officers raced to the scene and discovered a group of men apparently breaking into a lock-up unit.

Five men were arrested on suspicion of burglary on Thursday night.

Inside the unit, officers found a cannabis cultivation operation with 200 mature plants and a nursery. The plants are believed to be worth about £1,000 each.

Inspector Dick Langton said: "This is a well-developed and sophisticated set up.

"We are now making forensic inquiries, removing the plants to be destroyed and dismantling the equipment. Engineers are also at the scene making it safe in case of any illegal abstraction of electricity."
