Where Is Spring? Shropshire farmer writes question in the snow
This photograph shows the landscape of Shropshire was apparently telling its own story when Britain shivered its way to the coldest March since 1962.
March 20 was the official start of spring but the snows of more than a week ago stubbornly refused to recede and make way for the new season.
The continued white-out and total lack of signs the countryside was springing back into life after the bleak winter prompted farmer Nicholas Stokes to pose the question on everyone's lips - Where Is Spring?
Mr Stokes, who runs Haughton Farm in Ellesmere, rode on his quadbike to painstakingly spell out the query in 40ft-high letters on his land.
He then took to his microlight for a swoop over the farm and captured this photograph of his handiwork from above.
Mr Stokes said: "It was just a bit of fun.
"Everyone keeps wondering what on earth happened to spring this year.
"I thought I would spell it out for everyone to see."
Mr Stokes has about 50 cattle on his former dairy farm and he said they were due to go out to graze in April but that would probably have to be delayed a month now because of the freezing conditions.
