The separate incidents left a 26-year-old motorcyclist and a 75-year-old woman dead and four others injured.

The 26-year-old was killed shortly after 10pm on Good Friday, in Burford, near Tenbury Wells.

The collision at the junction of the A456 with Boraston Drive, involved a red off-road Honda 85cc motorcycle and a beige Skoda Fabia estate car.

The motorcyclist, who has yet to be formally identified, was taken by ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham but died on Saturday.

Police Constable Simon Fearn, one of the investigating officers, said: "We are continuing to investigate the circumstances which resulted in this tragedy. We are anxious to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision, or indeed, may have seen the motorcyclist or the car before it happened.

Police are also appealing for witnesses to a two-car crash on the A5 near Shrewsbury on Saturday in which a 75-year-old woman died and four others were injured.

The woman, who has not yet been formally identified, was a front seat passenger in a grey Volkswagen Golf which was involved in a collision with a silver Toyota Verso at Montford Bridge shortly after 5pm.

A 78-year-old man who was driving the Golf and a nine-year-old girl passenger were airlifted to the University Hospital of North Staffordshire in Stoke-on-Trent with serious injuries.

Two passengers from the Toyota – a woman and a six-year-old boy – were taken to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital. The male driver was unhurt. Anyone with information on either incident should contact police on 0300 333 3000.
