Work at Bishop Heber High School in Malpas, near Whitchurch, will include creating a two-storey sixth form building and a science block.

The new sixth form building would replace the existing single-storey sixth form mobile building, while the new single-storey twin science block would replace an existing twin mobile classroom.

Plans have been submitted by Cheshire West and Chester Council. It is not yet known how much the work will cost.

The proposal has been met with support from Malpas Parish Council despite concerns being raised about health and safety.

Ruth Jacks, clerk of Malpas Parish Council, said: "There are health and safety concerns regarding access to the site during the construction phase. The council hopes that the construction work will be carried out during the school holidays.

"There are safety concerns regarding the poor access from the Chester Road into the student car park. The council wishes to request that the highways department look at the access to the site of the proposed sixth form building."

A report on behalf of the applicant said: "Cheshire West and Chester's mobile replacement programme currently highlights four mobile blocks that require replacing on the Bishop Heber campus."
