A small number of unsavoury tweets appeared on the Abraham Darby Academy Twitter feed yesterday.

Staff at the secondary school responded quickly to remove the tweets and left their own message saying: "Clearly our account has been compromised this morning. Please ignore any unusual tweets."

School principal Steve Hawke said: "I understand from our IT department that it's not unusual for Twitter accounts to be hacked, but this is the first time it's happened to our account."

Staff at the school use the Twitter account to keep pupils and parents up to date with events, meetings and possible school closures.
