Craven Arms ambulance station is being advertised for sale with offers invited in the region of £200,000.

As part of the sale, a small portion of the site will be retained for use as a small community ambulance station.

West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman Chris Kowalik said the decision to sell was part of the organisation's 'Make Ready' plans.

He said: "The Make Ready programme has seen the creation of two 24/7 fleet maintenance hubs where dedicated teams of ambulance fleet assistants prepare, service and maintain the fleet of ambulances.

"The hubs are based at Abella Business Park, Shrewsbury and in Wrekin Drive, Donnington. They serve a new network of community ambulance stations."

He added: "The new community ambulance stations have replaced the traditionally owned ambulance stations, are lower maintenance and therefore have lower running costs.

Consequently, Craven Arms ambulance station is due to be advertised for sale

"As part of the sale, West Midlands Ambulance Service would wish to retain a small part of the site for use as a small community ambulance station."

The announcement brings to an end months of confusion and rumours surrounding the building in Ludlow Road.

GPs and health campaigners expressed fears people living in south Shropshire would have to wait longer for ambulances.
