Wolverhampton lifeguard tells of moment boy was found face down in pool
A lifeguard this afternoon described the moment she found an eight-year-old boy floating face down in a swimming pool in Wolverhampton – and said she initially thought he was 'messing around'.
Kelly Woods is accused of failing to properly supervise pool users, including eight-year-old Suraj Mall, who drowned at Wolverhampton Swimming and Fitness Centre in 2008.
The city's crown court today heard her recount the minutes after Suraj was discovered unconscious in the water when two young girls raised the alarm.
She said: "I asked the girls to check if he was OK. I thought he was messing around at first. That's what children do."
The court had already heard yesterday how a 12-year-old girl, who was with her 10-year-old sister, called out for help twice before Woods heard.
