Crash sparks call for action over speeding

Talks will take place next week about the speed of motorcyclists on a country road after a second serious accident in a small Shropshire hamlet in the space of three years.

The issue will be high on the agenda at Diddlebury parish council when it meets in the village near Craven Arms on Wednesday night.

It comes after a biker was airlifted to hospital after colliding with a car and smashing into a stone wall on the B4368 in neighbouring hamlet Corfton, near the Sun Inn.

The accident happened on Sunday afternoon and the man, believed to be in his 50s, was airlifted to hospital with spinal and internal injuries, which are not believed to be life-threatening, police said.

Paul Gravestock, who lives near where the crash happened, said it was the second time the air ambulance had been called to the tiny hamlet in three years.

In October 2010 a man died after his bike was involved in a collision with a tractor and trailer on the B4368, again near the pub.

A second motorcyclist suffered serious leg and suspected pelvic injuries after crashing nearby.

Mr Gravestock said the speed of bikers using the road would be discussed by Diddlebury Parish Council next week.

He said: "I didnt see the crash, but the motorcyclist smashed into my stone wall.

"It's not the first time this has happened down here and we regularly have motorcyclists who travel well in excess of the 60mph speed limit.

"There are speed cameras down here sometimes, but word seems to have got out beforehand and everyone is suddenly driving at the speed limit."

The parish council meeting starts at 7.30pm at Diddlebury village hall. Members of the public are welcome to attend.
