Defendant George Garratt, 70, also admitted possessing a shotgun without a firearms certificate in September of last year.

But other charges of possessing a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence, assault and criminal damage, which he denied, were dropped at Mold Crown Court yesterday.

Garratt, bailed to live at his daughter's address in Gallowstreet Bank, Welshpool, was told that he would be sentenced next month.

Judge Rhys Rowlands also ruled that he is to have no contact with prosecution witnesses and he refused an application by defending barrister Debra White for him to be allowed to return home to his wife.
