New flood barrier trial for Ironbridge

New barriers which allow a main road through Ironbridge to remain open during light floods are to be trialled by Telford & Wrekin Council later this year.

The Wharfage is at risk of flooding from the River Severn and with the current barrier defence system it is necessary to close the road to vehicles and pedestrians.

When flooding is predicted to reach just above road level, the smaller barriers will be deployed allowing the Wharfage to remain open.

If water levels are expected to exceed the road level then the other barriers will still have to be erected.

Trials are expected to be held in the summer.
