Workers told up to 30 jobs will go at Doncasters in Shropshire
Up to 30 people could be made redundant at an aerospace parts company in Shropshire, it has been announced.
Doncasters, which is based in Whitchurch Road, Shrewsbury, is looking to cut its workforce and staff have been told their jobs are at risk.
Mick Tuff, regional organiser from the Unite union, said the company had put the move down to a fall in orders to the site, which currently employs about 310 people.
A 30-day consultation period with staff has started, with company bosses expected to meet with union representatives next week.
Staff on the shop floor, engineering, finance, human resources, sales, inspection, maintenance and production support departments are all at risk from job cuts.
They were told on Thursday their jobs were at risk.
A briefing document sent out by Doncasters said it was hoped compulsory redundancies can be minimised.
"It is with much regret that the company is commencing a redundancy programme at the Doncasters Shrewsbury facility," it said.
"At this stage the company is proposing up to 30 redundancies although we anticipate the number of compulsory redundancies will be lower because we hope to identify a number of vacancies across the business and we are also seeking volunteers for redundancy."
Staff interested in taking voluntary redundancy are being asked to apply by May 28.
No-one from Doncasters was available for comment today.
