Work to improve Ellesmere Market Hall is now almost complete and the revamped venue will be showcased to the public on June 8.

Young and old will be able to take part in gigantic versions of popular family board games while also exploring everything the new hall has to offer.

Community group All Together Ellesmere helped oversee the refurbishment.

Group chairman Lincoln McMullan said: "Work on the new market hall is now almost most complete and I have to say it looks pristine.

"Now we are doing everything we can to get people inside to show off what a great new venue it is.

"We are holding an old fashioned children's party with a twist. The twist is that all the games are suitable for adults as well as children.

"We are going to have giant Jenga, a giant buzzer, giant Connect 4 and a giant splat the rat.

"We want as many people as possible to come along and see there is a great venue available to them if they are need somewhere to hire.

"We have a new kitchen, space for marquees and entertainment people can book."

Alongside the new kitchen, the new hall has a new store room and fireproof shutters and fire-proof plasterboard has been installed.

The work was funded thanks to a grant of £11,620 from Shropshire Council's Market Towns Revitalisation Programme.

However, anyone who cannot wait until June 8 to see the revamped hall can get a first glimpse at the town's music festival which is taking place in the venue on Saturday.

The event, which has cost £4,000 to stage, will feature a mix of established artists and some talented local bands.

Organisers are hoping the festival will fill the void left by Ellesmere Proms in the Park which had to be cancelled due to a lack of funds.

Bands will perform from noon to 6pm, which will be free to attend. Following the break, the main concert, which will cost £5 per person, will take place from 8pm until midnight.
