The latest development came as police investigated what they called a "potentially significant sighting" of the van driven by the man being questioned on suspicion of her murder.

Police continue to question a 22-year-old man who has been arrested on suspicion of murder and have been given until 6.30am tomorrow to interview him.

Officers and police dogs were today painstakingly searching undergrowth in Ercall Wood, close to the Wrekin.

A murder probe was launched following the disappearance of the 17-year-old policeman's daughter who has not been seen since 7.30pm on Sunday.

Sergeant Jeff Morris, senior officer at the Ercall Wood scene, said: "We are conducting a search of the area. It is related to the search for missing Georgia Williams and we are looking for any clues as to where she might be."

Police this afternoon said they were investigating a sighting "of potential signficance" following an appeal on BBC's Crimewatch last night for information about the van.

Detectives want to know there whereabouts of the silver Toyota Hiace 300 GS panel van, registration CX06 ASV, between 5pm and 10.30pm on Monday. Police are particularly interested in the van's movements, which are unaccounted for during the five hours when it travelled only 20 miles.

Superintendent Nav Malik said: "I cannot go into detail at this time but the sighting of the van is of potential significance and we are following up on that today along with another three sightings.

"Since our investigation was launched on Wednesday the incident room has received more than 100 messages with information in response to our appeals for sightings of Georgia and the van.

"They have come from a wide area along the route we know the van took from Shropshire through North Wales and Cheshire to Scotland and even further afield.

"All calls are being prioritised and followed up.

Police have appealed for anyone who has seen this van since Sunday to get in touch with them

"One call could make all the difference and as we have already mentioned the current focus of our appeals is on sightings of that silver Toyota Hiace which we know was heading towards the main arterial routes from the Wrexham area at about 5pm on Monday. We also know that at about 10.30pm the vehicle was at Deeside, Queensferry, Cheshire, heading north."

The van was thought to have been being driven by the suspect, named locally as Jamie Reynolds. Detectives were granted more time to interview the man, who was arrested in Glasgow early on Wednesday.

Georgia's friends held an emotional gathering in Wellington today. Dozens of tearful friends held one another and spoke of their hope that she will be found alive.

Friend Dan Crossley posted this song on YouTube to help find missing Georgia.
