The alarm was raised in Wellington when a member of the public spotted a suspicious package. They alerted police to a cardboard box outside Hope House Children's Hospice shop on Crown Street.

News quickly spread on Twitter. Officers taped off the area but soon found the parcel to contain saucepans, thought to have been left as a donation to the charity shop.

Wellington Police tweeted: "Call made in good faith and we'll always respond accordingly but thankfully just some household items left in a bag!"

A spokesman for West Mercia Police said: "At about 11.15am we received a call with concern about a box left next to a bin bag near to the Coral betting shop in Crown Street, Wellington.

We carried out inquiries and cordoned off the area as a precaution. But by 11.40am it was identified as a package of saucepans left for the charity shop."
