She has enjoyed success at the Olympics, but top archer Alison Williamson had her biggest smile yet as she tied the knot.

The 41-year-old sharp shooter from Shropshire was married in front of around 30 family and friends.

She has competed in six Olympics including the London Games and won a bronze medal in Athens in 2004, but she insisted exchanging vows had been her number one event. The weather helped to make the occasion even more memorable as Alison, who grew up in Church Stretton, married Will Conaghan, aged 43.

They married at Stafford Registry Office on Saturday and the reception was held at Greengate Street's Posthouse in Stafford town centre, before the couple set off for Paris for their honeymoon.

She said there was excitement rather than nerves in the day, and now needs to get used to her new surname.

"It was wonderful there was great weather. It was so nice to have family and friends to share it with us."

The Shropshire archery ace became the third person in history to represent Team GB in six consecutive Olympics when she competed at London 2012.

Alison was awarded an MBE for her services to archery last year.
