Owners of the two-screen Pola cinema in Welshpool say they cannot afford to upgrade to digital technology and are being squeezed by their multi-screen entertainment complex rivals.
The last films will be shown on June 13.
The cinema, which has been in the town for more than half a century, reopened its doors in 1992 after a three-year closure.
Two years later a 40-seat second screen was added. But, with the industry changing to digital technology, its owners say they faced a £130,000 outlay to make the switch.
