Belated fun day marks Queen's Diamond Jubilee
A belated fun day to celebrate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee has taken place – four months later than planned.
More than 100 people attended the community event, held at St John's Church, in Colemere, near Ellesmere.
The original celebration had to be postponed in March after the county was hit by snowstorms.
On the day determined organisers still managed to plant a tree to mark the jubilee, despite eight inches of snow on the ground. However the family fun day had to be cancelled.
One of the organisers, Mary Griffin, said the belated event was worth the wait.
She said: "It was a very successful day and the weather was about as different as it could be. We had wonderful sunshine.
"It's hard to estimate how many people came along but it was well over 100 and everyone really enjoyed themselves.
"We had organised lots of attractions for children.
"One of the most popular was a bonfire and I think a few too many marshmallows were eaten by local brownie and cub groups.
"We also had an area where youngsters could make wooden medallions. The idea was that they would make them and then put them on the tree but they liked them so much most of the children took them home.
"We also had a wildlife trail, cutting and sticking in the church and a really talented girl doing facepainting. All the organisers felt the day was very supported."
Mrs Griffin said many of the children were asking if the event would take place again next year.
She said: "It was a lot of hard work to organise but we'll see what we can do about next year."
