Private talks over new Whitchurch Town Council clerk

Private talks will be held this week to discuss the recruitment of a new town clerk in Shropshire.

Whitchurch Town Council's personnel committee will meet to talk about the future of the role following the resignation of former clerk Peter Martin last year.

The meeting will be held on Wednesday in Whitchurch Civic Centre, at 6.30pm.

Mr Martin was initially suspended by Whitchurch Town Council in 2011 after a behind-closed-doors meeting of councillors.

Mr Martin, who used to be a Shropshire County Council member, had served for five years as clerk.

Town leaders and Mr Martin have remained tight-lipped when asked about any payout.

Peter Cooper is currently acting as the council's locum town clerk on a six-month contract.
